Course for PhD and Temporary employee representatives 3rd of December 2013

TODOS invites all PhD candidates and UiT temporary staff holding a position as a representative in any board or committee at UiT to a course on the 3rd of December at Arktica in Tromsø. The target groups are: representatives of temporary employees in the UiT Board, boards of different faculties and in the UiT Elections Board; PhD representatives in the research committees of different faculties; PhD representatives in the UiT Ethics Committee, UiT Gender Equality Committee, UiT Research Strategy Committee and the High North Academy Board; PhD representatives in boards of research schools (e.g. ARCTOS), and members of the TODOS Board (2013 and 2014).

When: 3rd of December, from 08:00 to 15:00 (17:00 for the TODOS Board)

Where: Arktika, Tromsø (inside the FRAM Centre building)

Registration Deadline: 22nd of November by sending an e-mail to When registering, please mention in which board/committee are you a representative and for which period.

This is a unique opportunity to meet all the people representing the interests of PhD candidates at the university. In addition to facilitate networking, the course gives you knowledge about team work, presentation techniques helping you to get your message across, cross-cultural communication and rights and duties of UiT board and committee members.

Nationally and internationally acknowledged speakers are going to provide the participants with the necessary understanding and skills for team work, board/committee work and cultural awareness.

09:00 – Communication: how to get your message across, rhetoric and how to identify and counter domination techniques (Ragnhild Nilsen)

11:00 – Collaboration in boards: team work and cross-cultural understanding (Sjaak Pappe, ITIM International) (NB! Pre-session preparation work of 15 minutes it is required to be fulfilled by 25.11)

13:30 – What does it mean to be a temporary employees representative (Petter Gjerpe, Rannveig Grøm Sæle)

13:50 – Presentations by: a representative of the UiT Department for Research and Development (Pål Vegar Storeheier, director), TODOS (Sandra Ronai, Chair of the Academic Committee), the PhD candidates in research committee of a faculty (Ralph Kube, NT), the representative of the faculty administration in a research committee (Rune Larsen, BFE), the PhD representative in a department board (Anna Wolleb, CASTL), followed by a short discussion related to better collaboration, cooperation and communication between different PhD candidate representatives.

About the speakers:

Ragnhild Nilsen presently occupies a unique position as one of Scandinavia’s leading lecturer and coach for business executives, politicians, television presenters, international negotiators and people who want to get their thoughts and ideas across. Sjaak Pappe is a cross-cultural innovation strategist with more than 25 years of international management experience in business-to-business and business-to-consumer industries. Since 1999 he works as international management consultant and executive coach specialized in innovation across cultures. He is an Advisory Board Member of the Rotterdam Business School, where he also is a guest lecturer.  Sjaak is also an Associated Partner of itim International, IBI and RelationWise.
